In „Sauerkrautkoma“ muss Franz Eberhofer, Chef-Phlegmatiker bei der Polizeidienststelle Niederkaltenkirchen, die Heimat vorübergehend verlassen. Die fünfte Rita-Falk-Adaption von Regisseur Ed Herzog und Produzentin Kerstin Schmidbauer verpflanzt das „Dreamteam“ Eberhofer-Birkenberger in die wilde Großstadt München – für den Eberhofer der Overkill. Provinzpolizist Franz Eberhofer (Sebastian Bezzel) wird neuen, nervenzerfetzenden Belastungen ausgesetzt: Er wird nach München „strafversetzt“. Das bedeutet für ihn Wohngemeinschaft mit seinem eigenwilligen Kumpel Rudi (Simon Schwarz) und seine Widersacherin Thin Lizzy (Nora Waldstätten) als Chefin.
Kein Wunder, dass Franz zurück will nach Niederkaltenkirchen. Dort wartet die größte Herausforderung auf ihn: Karl-Heinz Fleischmann (Gedeon Burkhard), früher der pickelige „Fleischi“ und nun erfolgreicher Geschäftsmann, ist wieder aufgetaucht und macht sich an seine Susi (Lisa Maria Potthoff) ran. Diesmal gibt es keinen Ausweg: Franz ist seiner ewigen On-Off-Freundin den längst überfälligen Heiratsantrag schuldig.
Zum Glück findet sich bald eine Frauenleiche im Kofferraum vom Papa (Eisi Gulp), die den Eberhofer zurück in die Heimat und an Omas (Enzi Fuchs) Kochtöpfe führt. Die Aufklärung erledigt der Franz so lässig wie immer, die abführende Wirkung von Sauerkraut lässt er besser Rudi ausprobieren, wenn es aber darum geht, bei der Susi einen ordentlichen Heiratsantrag zu vollstrecken, stößt er doch an seine Grenzen.
